NCAA Clearinghouse Registration

The NCAA is an acronym I will be hearing a lot over the next few years. Incase your wondering what it means, it stands for National Collegiate Athletic Association. The website is a must for any student-athlete wanting to play sports in a D1 or D2 college. Anything you need to know about eligibility rules and recruiting is on their website.

Registering online was very easy. Basically you’ll need your social security number along with a credit card to pay the $50 fee (There is also an option to pay by check). All the other information they ask for you should already know. It took about 20 minutes.

A few things to remember before you register:

They’ll ask you for your graduation date, so knowing that in advance would be good.
You will need an email address that cannot change. If you change your email address you‘ll have to re-register and don’t forget your password! If you lose your log-in info, you’ll have to fax something to them to get your ID and password.
You’ll have to fill out a questionnaire determining your ‘amateur status’. They will ask you things like: Have you been paid to play? Do you have an agent? Stuff like that.

It is recommended that you sign up before your Junior year.

You can contact the NCAA Clearinghouse at 877-262-1492 or go to their website here.

Jenn Salling

Let’s declare this National Jenn Salling Week in Eugene, OR!

Jenn Salling, University of Oregon’s stud SS, has earned two top honors in the world of collegiate sports. Within two days of each other the Oregon freshman was named to the All Pac-10 First Team, Newcomer of the Year and named to the NFCA D1 All Pacific Region Team.

Originally from British Columbia, at hasn’t taken Jenn Salling long to make a name for herself in the Pac-10. Along with boasting a .483 batting average (3rd best in the nation), Salling’s OBP is .621 (2nd in the Pac-10) and her SP came in at an astounding .864 (3rd in the Pac-10). Salling is no newcomer to awards though; she has earned many awards that include two nods for female athlete of the year in 2004 and 2005 from Terry Fox High School in addition to MVP for her volleyball and basketball teams in 2005.

Atta baby!

There are a record seven Ducks on the All Pac-10 Conference teams representing the University of Oregon. It looks like this is a team to watch!

The Ducks are playing today 5/18/07 in South Carolina at the NCAA Regional Tournament. There 1st game is against Penn State.

This is such an honor for each of these girls! Here is the list.

SSK Softball Mitt

The SSK has been my mitt of choice for a few years now. I’ve been through a couple in the past few years, and the cool thing about this mitt is that when you get it, it’s already fairly broken in.

I usually cook my mitts before I use them. There is this stuff that looks like shaving cream. You basically just lather your mitt, and then bake it for a few minutes. It comes out softer than when it went in. My dad used real shaving cream once. It worked ok, but the shaving cream had a green tint to it, so it left a bit of the hue on my mitt. It went away after a while though. Nothing the field dirt couldn’t get rid of.

Anyway, the SSK is oil injected, so I think that’s part of why it is already pretty soft right out of the box.

Meeting Sue Enquist

I attended my first softball camp at the young age of 9. I was the youngest girl there and got sick. I threw up and Sue Enquist had to call my parents. How embarrassing. Hey Sue, remember me, I’m the one that threw up at camp. Great!

Valencia JV Softball Team League Champs

Our team won league today. It was great to be a part of that. Our last game started out a bit shaky (kind of like our season with a loss to Canyon in the league opener). We gave up 4 runs in the top of the first, but knowing that we had to win that game in order to win the foothill league title really lit a fire under our butts. Our entire team stepped up to the plate knowing that we had to come out on top. The final score was 15-5 against Golden Valley. Our season record was 8-2.

High School ball was fun and great for everybody’s stats and confidence. Special thanks to our coach Dudley Rooney and his wife Cathy for all of their support throughout the season.

Texting Banned from College Recruiting Process

The NCAA Division 1 Management Council voted on Tuesday to ban text messaging as a form of communication between a college recruiter and a prospective student-athlete.  Overall, student-athletes were not happy with the amount of text messages they received and they felt it was intrusive and sometimes a financial burden.

While sending text messages in now prohibited, emails are still acceptable.

It’s a Bad Day to be a Wahine

That is if you’re in Fresno, Ca.

According to the Fresno Bee, the Fresno State Bulldogs softball team has something to prove following last years defeat to the Rainbow Wahini team from Hawaii.

Apparently, the Wahini’s first baseman pounded her chest and pointed her index finger at Fresno fastpitch fans after their home game elimination in the 2006 semifinals.

Come on people, can’t we all get along? I guess not.

If the teams keep advancing in the WAC tournament bracket they should face off on Friday 5/11. Hawaii is a dominant player in the West with 45 wins under their belt, but the Bulldogs have that image of Tausaga digging in the worst loss in Fresno State’s softball history.

Being a California girl…Go Bulldogs!
